p.1 #1 · CLS Question

I currently have an SB-800 and a SB-28. I've been using the SB-28 on a cord and the SB-800 in SU-4 mode for product and table top shots and I'm finding it would be convenient to add a couple more strobes to my kit.

Since I don't need high power for my shots and I also shoot a lot of macro I'm considering getting a R1 kit.

Will my SB-28 be useless with the SB-R200 strobes? If all the strobes are in manual mode will I be able to fire the SB-28 with a peanut or will I still get preflash?

The newer opticals have a switch to ignore preflash.

Are those reliable with CLS and the multiple pre-flashes it puts out?
I also don't have a peanut handy so I can't test to see if the camera puts out a pre-flash if the strobes are in manual control while in CLS.

Keep in mind that the R1 kit comes with an SU-800 Commander that uses infrared rather than pre-flashes. That might make a difference.

I believe the R1 kit only includes the flash modules. You have to spend extra for the R1C1 package to get the SU-800 included.
