p.1 #1 · Bridge CS4: How to toggle between RAW and edits?

I’ve looked everywhere, how do I toggle between an edited photo and the original RAW in Bridge CS4?

When I right-click and hit Previous Conversion under the Development Setting menu, it resets the preview to RAW, but then I can’t get my edit back. I just want to toggle quickly with a shortcut between one version and the original. Is this even possible? And if so, what is the shortcut?

There is no way I know of other than toggling back and forth between "Camera Raw Defaults" and "Previous Conversion" using Develop Settings, much as you have already tried. Since you can't create custom keyboard shortcuts in Bridge, however, it is not very convenient to use.

It is a little more convenient inside Camera Raw since you can toggle the preview on and off with the P key but it is probably not perfect for what you are looking for either. The preview toggle inside ACR only affects the adjustments you have made on the current tab (or everything except local brush and gradient if you are on the Presets tab) but it is useful as a comparison to Camera Raw Defaults only if you are applying new edits for the first time. After that it is showing you a comparison to your previous edits.

You can also use the Fly-out menu in ACR to select Camera Raw Defaults but this is similar to using Develop Settings in Bridge. The only slight advantage is that Ctrl-Z (undo) works inside ACR and you can use it to undo the Camera Raw Defaults. Ctrl-Z unfortunately does not work for Develop Settings in Bridge.

You might look for third-party key stroke shortcut creators that might work. I believe that the Mac actually has one included in the operating system. It would take some testing on your part to see if they would work like you want.

If you open the raw file as a smart object in Photoshop you could use Ctrl-z to toggle back and forth between edited and original. I haven't tried it, but I think it should work.

If you want to look at different conversions against the original or other file changes, try the snapshot function in ACR. You can make as many different changes in ACR and save a snapshop with a name and toggle through them.

The "previous conversion" will apply the changes you made in your last conversion only. In other words. if you make changes in one image with ACR and then close the file, the next file you open in ACR, you can apply those same settings to that image(s). Every time you make a setting change in ACR it will become your previous conversion when you close out and open a new image.

Hope that helps.

I have 5 monitors. One has the Bridge thumbnails, one the thumbnail enlarged to full screen and one is my best calibrated monitor that runs ACR and PS. The other two monitors are for tools and utility/browser.
