Played with the settings a little yesterday. This game was between the #2 and #8 State ranked teams and it was a thriller. A lot of action and a technical on one of the the coaches... pretty intense game.. Anyway C&C welcome as always
Bob
I have to tell ya John.. This was as close to any college game I've seen in a long time. These HS players are doing some amazing things on the court. My hometown HS team are the state defending champions and the other isn't that far behind.
Bob, you are one lucky guy to have this much excitement to capture -- I have to run over to our local NAIA school to get this! And whatever it is you did with those strobe settings, do it again! They are working for you quite nicely.
Thanks John.. I have been pretty happy with my strobing as of late but it always seems right at the end of each sport season I just start getting things down pat and the season ends. Oh Well.. there's always next year
Thanks Frank, Use to be alot of great things in Newburgh. Things have kinda went by the wayside as of late and the city is having big time financial trouble.
Bob.. Great stuff. I just started this season "strobing" HS basketball. I've been using B800's pointed directly at about the foul line, one from each side. I bounce a third at the backcourt to "wash" out the bad ambient color. I get a lot of shadows from the direct strobe - sometimes it looks cool, other times a hand shadow right in someone's face. These look like bounce - very nice and even. I had trouble using bounce as I just couldn't freeze the action enough - any advice??
Paul... are you setting the bees to full power when you tried bouncing? I beleive the D3 and D700 you can sync @ 320 is that correct? I use a D300 Sigma 70-200 2.8 @ iso 500-640 320 ss and F3.3-3.5. This has been working out for me very well as you can see.
Bob, The gym I most frequent has very high ceilings and fairly bright (however bad in color) available light. I had 2 B800's on full power with 11" reflectors and I still could not freeze the action enough going bounce. D3 / D700 only goes to 250 on the sync. If I frame pretty loose, I can "cheat" and use 1/320 but 1/250 does fine. I've even done some 7th/8th grade stuff in really bad gyms at 1/125 sec and it's fine as long as the flash duration and avaialble light levels are in range. We move to playoffs this week so I might see some new gyms with lower ceilings. Thanks for the info. Cheers, Paul
I shoot college hoops strobed and these are the best high school shots I've seen in a while. Hope these kids go to college in upstate NY, Syracuse area.
