I am very new here. This is actually my first post.
I just received my Canon 1D Mark IV and decided to test it out on the streets of NYC the last 2 days.
I was disappointed in all the noise I was seeing in my pictures. The noise can be seem at all ISO's and the pictures are unusable after ISO 2000. I have Fashion Week to shoot in less than a week and I have no clue what to do.
I've read so much here on the board, that Mark IV owners are very pleased with there ISO results up to ISO 6400. I'm afraid to even see what my pictures would look like.
This is the worst ISO performing camera I own(40D,50D and 5D II).
Maybe I just have a bad copy. It's not like I can goto the store and return it this week because no one has it in stock.
Here is a Link to the pictures. Please tell me what you think. Most if not all were shot with the 135mm f2.0. THE PASSWORD is Mark IV
Why not just paste link to photo inside post? This camera can't be worse of any you specified, just read manual and shot plain raw. Turn off extra settings like in body noise reduction.
No I don't think he is being sarcastic, the files do look quite messy. At first they look clean because of the excessive noise reduction used, but if you look closely, especially the ISO 4000 shot, the background is pretty much magenta when you open the full size because the shot has so much chroma blotching
This is examining at the pixel level though....at the pixel level you aren't going to see much improvement (if any at all) compared to a 40D or 5D Mark II
Well, I understand your point Dawei, and you do have a point.
But keep in mind he compared to the 50d (among others).
I had one.
The 50d is MUCH MUCH MUCH worse at high isos than this.
It has absolutely no comparison whatsoever.
You all honestly think these pictures are just fine. The NR was reduction was set to Standard.
I was not joking about the quality of these pictures. Do any of you even have a Mark IV or are you just bashing me because you thing I'm a newbie and I don't know how to operate a camera? I'm not a newbie just because I'm new here. All the glass I own is L series (12 to be exact).
I just need to know if you have a Mark IV and you would consider these pictures good? I did not process this pictures in any way. They are straight from the camera - I don't have the optimizer or any of that other stuff turned on.
I'm not going to get a chance to use the camera again until Thursday (fashion week) - I'd love to show off my new camera. I just need to know if it need to go back to Canon morning morning!! No joke. I'm being honest.
When you view the original uploaded photo (button in the lower left of photo) the 4000 iso shot looks fine.
Be aware some resizing/stretching has taken place with the first seen file.
So everything seems fine and it doesn't look like you have anything to be worried about.
I don't have a 1D4 but I'm curious about the standard of high ISO photos that you're used to. Would you be willing to post some high ISO photos which you think are satisfactory?
The face of the lady in the ISO4000 sample also doesn't seem to be quite in focus compared to the ISO2500 one. Perhaps that makes the noise looks worse than it really is?
