So. Ever since Dusty and Caitlin got engaged, we’ve had this brilliant plan to do a completely epic Disneyland photoshoot for their engagement photos. Between the bright colors, fun rides, bubbly personalities of Dusty and Caitlin, and the always lovely sunny California weather, it was set to be THE photoshoot. And then God mistook Southern California for Seattle.
It poured the entire time. I’ve shot in some pretty wet stuff without much thought about my cameras, but this was one of the few times I feared for my equipment’s life. It was so wet. And cold. And dark. But Dusty and Caitlin trucked through it, soaked to the core. Way to be peeps. Way to be.
Oh. And the teacups were closed. Dang you rain.
Anyways, as always, more on the blog and C&C always appreciated.

nice set. did anyone give you any problems? I know Disney doesnt allow professional lenses or set ups, cause I asked about doing a shoot there. What was the gear you used?

Well how can they tell if it's a "professional" lens or not? Everyone has a DSLR nowadays.

Thanks folks. I don't think Disneyland really cared. Like Spence said, it's pretty hard to differentiate between enthusiastic amateur and pro now a days, that said, I was looking pretty pro. I'm talking a gripped 5D2 and a gripped 7D strapped to my hips tugging around L glass (although nothing white). There were even times when I busted out 580EX on a light stick with a 42" umbrella. That was a good show for the tourists. Haha.

My only issue if you can call it that would be having such tight crops and nuked backgrounds on almost all of them....it doesn't really scream "we shot our engagement photos in Disneyland!" except for the one on the blog that has the castle in the background. Nice pictures, but if these were my engagement photos(as the couple, not as the photographer) I'd want to see more of the environment in some of them, even if the weather sucked

10 is a great shot. I agree a little about the tight crops, but I imagine that there are some wider ones that you aren't showing. The churro pic is pretty darn cute.

I definitely understand what you guys mean about including more of Disneyland in the shots. The weather really through me for a loop. It got dark so stinkin' quick! On the shots list were teacups (only to be closed) and a roller coaster (got dark), but they didn't happen.
There are a few more wide shots on the blog that include a little more Disney, and while shallow depth of field is usually my still anyway, the lack of light and lack of pocket wizards (whole other story) left me no choice but to open up my primes.
I get what you're saying though and completely agree.

When I went a couple weeks ago, they told me that telephoto lenses are not allowed to deter paparazzi. I know lots of places that prohibit "pro" lenses simple do so on length and at the discretion of the "Security Guard", which usually means if they dont like you they wont like your camera!
Im surpised the OP got in with a light stick, I would have thought that would have brought out the disney cops right away, but then again it looks like he was there the same week I was and it was so rainy that they probably didnt care!

Haha. That's what I'm thinking! Although I didn't walk around the whole park with it. I just put it together when I needed it and then broke it down when we weren't using it.

Nice stuff in the rainy conditions.
The rule at Disneyland is no external pieces (e.g. lightsticks, tripods, etc.). I confirmed this with them before I even showed up with the couple. I've gone in with 2 DSLRs, 2 flashes, lenses, etc.
Downtown Disney is another story. You can only shoot there if the couple is getting married there that day.

Thanks guys. The no external pieces makes sense to me. I only had the lightstick out for a few minutes at a time, although it was probably too rainy for them to care anyways. Haha.
