Thanks for posting this review Jim, it helped me in my decision to pick up a copy myself (and I won't brag that I paid a little less for mine ).

I now also have a Leica R 60/2.8 macro lens that I got for less than I paid for the Mamiya. To be honest, they both are good. Really hard to tell the difference. Bokeh is just a bit better (smoother) with the Leica. The fact that the blades never really retract all of the way, even wide open will probably sway me away from the Mamiya eventually. Besides, I am a Leica fan in general.

I would prefer the Mamiya to the Leica - it is much easier to handle because of the preset aperture. And it goes 1:1 ...

Nice find Jim! I am in 'need' (want?) of a shorter macro lens, and something like this might be the ticket. I would love to see more images from it.

I just got that lens. I started a growing flickr album.

Looks like a great bargain, Jim. Nice that it can go 1:1 without a tube as well. You wouldn't have gotten that with the R.

I'd like to see some OOF highlights with that aperture.

Found my mamiya 60mm 2.8 in my old spotmatic bag, purchased an adapter for my Nikon D40. Not sure how to take advantage of the out apurture ring? I use my camera Pleinairing painting landscapes. thank

This is a preset type of lens.
The inner ring (closest to the camera body) sets the smallest aperture, say f11for this conversation. The outer ring is what you turn for DOF and shutter speed controls. So for this example, you cannot stop down the aperture lower than f11.

I find presets very useful because you get real-time DOF previews.

On my Pentax and Canon cameras this lens works best with Av shooting mode.

It's a fantastic lens by the way.

Is this typical for this lens? If not, it may be that your copy is slightly out of adjustment or was misassembled at some point. I have come across other lenses that have also had "exposed" aperture blades wide open. I have serviced some of these and was able to correct the condition with minor adjustment(s).
