Hah!
Way too predictable.
They both arrive at the same day!
Haha.
Shrug, gives me another excuse to purchase another c/y lens!

Well this sucks.
It is killing me to not be able to use this lens.
I am stilling waiting for the adapter from Hong Kong, sigh...
Is there a US purchase place for a cheap, cannot afford an expensive one right now, C/Y adapter?
But then, as soon as I purchase this, the other will arrive?
Sigh...

Thanks!

Uhm, so now I this mounted, how do I unmount this thing?
Lens from adapter, that is, I don't see a lever button, or whatever.
Sigh...

There is a small metal spring at the bottom of the adaptor locking to the mount. You need to push it outwards in order to remove the adaptor from the lens.

Wow, not reallyliking this.
I bet I over tightened it when putting it on.
I guess you can do this, yes?

Got it !
Thanks!
What a crappy design.
How did it dismount from the camera originally?
Man the Mamiya adapters are MUCH better!

I am not sure about what adaptor you are using, but mine does not require any tightening at all - it just clicks in place and the spring locks to the grove on the actual lens mount. I just use a small screw driver and gently push the spring outwards on the rare occasions I need to remove the adaptor.
Hope it helps.

Yeah, I over tightened the first one.
I bent the metal spring on that one, it was canted.
Luckily two came in on the same day, eh?
Anywho, I got the second one on now, and I didn't use "excessive" tightening this time!
Not that I thought I used excessive force on the first one...

exactly right. I am actually on my 2nd 'leitaxed' 35-70. the first one I didn't realize there was glue on the spring and lets just say things got messy. I actually had to keep the old, bended spring hanging inside the lens and attach a new one Plus I scratched the hell out of the rear optic cover. Here are some surgery pics:

BUT....that certainly didn't affect the picture quality. Oh yeah, I also forgot to cover the optics when I was 'messing' around. See the dust that got in:

Seriously, never saw any impact to photos with that dust.

i ended up picking up that one that someone posted from germany ebay. lens not in best condition but fromt he quick snaps i took, it seems fine image quality wise. havent loaded up on the PC yet though. didnt realize how small this zoom lens is, i thought it was bigger from the pics ive seen. in any case, it does take a bit of force to get it into the 'macro' mode. i have to hold the lens back cause it would dismount the lens fromt he adapter otherwise

since im having car troubles and needing money to fix, i might to end up selling the 24-85N and just keeping this one as my zoom lens .. ill try to do some quick tests but my tripod is mesed up so it wont be easy

Ouch!
I saw this posted before.
Luckily, I did not have to resort to this extreme for removal.
So, you can buy a new spring? Might as well get the two screws also...
From where?

Any other 5DMkII users with this lens here?
I had a mirror hang, strike, however it is, last night messin' around.
What damage does that incur to the camera?
Any damage done to the lens when this happens?
Does this only happen during inifinty focusing? I wasn't paying close attention, so I forget how exactly it happened.
I am kind of hesitant to play w/ this lens any more on the 5DMkII.
I would very much like to hear from actual experiences.
I will have to start from the beginning of this thread and read it entirely, again.

I actually pulled the extra spring that was in the old contax mount that was removed and placed that one in there. That is the spring that is now attached and the old spring that is still hanging in there is just attached to the old screw....couldn't get it out. So there are two springs in the lens now, not just one.

Anden is using it on 5D MkII...I don't recall him having any issues with the lens...

5D2 user here, never had any issue whatsoever. I have had interference with other lenses, it doesn't seem to do much damage if it is a once-in-a-while occurrence.

I had issues and had to remove the curved protective bit and also file the top of the protective metal part. The mirror hangs in the upright position.

This material removal...
From the lens, or from the mount?
I have verified FLs, Macro, 35, and 70 exhibit the mirror stoppage problem on my 5DMkII.
Focusing distance doesn't seem to matter.
I have to power off the camera, disconnect the lens by a quarter turn or so, and then the mirror falls into place.
This a major bummer deal, I was hoping to have this lens as mostly always attached.
Sigh, now it is ONLY attached to the 40D...

Oh, BTW, the adapter I'm using currently is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/C-Y-Contax-Yashica-Lens-CANON-EOS-EF-Mount-adapter-/170395355186?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Digital_Camera_Accessories&hash=item27ac5ac832#ht_2648wt_1202
The package says MASSA Technology CO., Ltd, made in China

Did you check the instructions on the leitax website? It does seem to be quite a hassle to install the Leitax mount...

Yes, that is the catch. with leitax conversion and chip, the adapter can cost $140 with current euro price. I am not sure what is current market pricing for C/Y 35-70 now.
I got bite by the lens lust crazy habit after reading this link http://robotbreeder.com/LensTests/2008/01/contax-35-70mm-f34-trounces-all-part-1.html
since I never tried with MF lens in stop down mode. I have mf lenses but all are AI-s which has no issue with D-200 body.

From the lens of course. The mirror couldn't possible hit the mount.
It's the "shroud" in which the rear element moves which you have to file a bit (at the top I guess), and you can unscrew that curved metal piece that's attached to it. When you have the adapter attached to the lens, you can easily see which part sticks out most into the mirror chamber and where the mirror could hit.

I didn't have any problems with the copy that I tried on my 5Dmk1, but I only had it for a short time. But I think that the mk1 has as least as much (if not more) mirror clearance problems as the mk2 on average.

So,
A mirror strike occurs when the mirror is raised, and strikes the lens mount?
And,
A mirror hang occurs when the mirror is released, and hangs on top of the mount?

On my 5DMkII and the C/Y 35-70 lens I definitely end up w/ mirror hangs.
But, how do I know it isn't striking also?
I guess it is also striking? I'm uncertain...

I have been toying with the idea of ordering a new mirror, and having it shaved.
Then replace the existing mirror w/ the shaved one.
Of course, this will mean the camera has to go to a shop that performs this type of work.
Anyone had this performed?
