Some potentially interesting news.
I was going through one of a multiple forums on the iMacs problems and came across
a vary interesting post which I thought I should share.
Remember this is copy of a post so take it with a grain of salt, but it looks promising
Hi again!
I have even more exciting news for you guys to analyse! Just called the Mac guys back asking them about this inconsistency with the things they have been telling me so they sent me a copy of the info they got about the yellowing of the screens from Apple. I saw this document which is strictly confidential but the guy saw how angry i was. The document says that Apple have been working on this fix since Christmas and that this update (coming around the 10th of Feb) is not a firmware update, it is much much more. The update will go deeper into the iMac way of functioning and the display of color. Basically the update (not a firmware update!) will change the way the 27" displays color. It is, as it says on the document, a MACHINE CODE UPDATE (in big black capital letters) So happy to be able to report this to you guys Before you ask me to send you the document, the guy at the store asked me to keep this to myself Hope this helps
The latest firmware seems to have resolved the majority of the flicker cases.
Unfortunately for those suffering with yellow tinted screens you'll have to wait a little
longer to see how apple decides to fix it.
From what I'm guessing they'll either have to switch panel manufacturers (although highly unlikely at this stage, maybe for next refresh), improve QC or do a recall when they eventually figure out how to resolve the issue.
Till then, I'll be waiting patiently.............
There were similar problems with the 24" iMacs initially, which were sorted out with firmware patches.
Life is full of compromises and tempered expectations. If you buy an iMac expecting it to perform like a Eizo-FlexScan-SX3031W you will be disappointed. If you need that level of performance you should buy a Eizo-FlexScan-SX3031W
Received my i7 27" iMac 2 weeks ago. Very pleased with it and it is fast as mentioned before me. The transfer from my old 24" iMac went smoothly without any hiccups. Just a little note of interest: my Spyder 2 calibration software seems to intrude in the background and cannot be closed and has caused Safari to misbehave. Any thoughts on that ?
The polarising filter they use in between the glass and the protective layer, on all mac displays. Horrible and way to contrasty imho. I can't work on them.
I call that a defect. A BIG one. Especially for photography output.
