Could someone direct me what is involved or needed to convert the softboxes I have currently, Photoflex 32x24 and a 55x15.5. Looking at purchasing other lights, switching from Photoflex Starlite (continuous) to strobes, maybe AB Einsteins.
Will I just have to get a different face attachment?
Emailed Paul C. Buff customer service and this is there response:

Like already said AB speedring works fine with photoflex softbox. But photoflex speedring is better than AB speed ring if you have a heavy softbox or octobox on it as it allows mounting directly to the lightstand. So all the weight goes on the lightstand not the fingers on AB lights.

is there a diagram or illustration somewhere that shows how you mount the softbox directly to the lightstand with the photoflex ring? does this mounting restrict positioning the light? is the light now supported by the ring?
thanks

Here is a link to an image I scanned of my insrtuctions for my Photoflex PCB speedring. I looked on Photoflex's website but found the link to this speedring's insructions grayed out. The ring can be mounted directly to your light stand as an option. Not sure if PCB speedrings do the same. Other wise, the light is mounted on the stand with ring in place on light.

thanks RMS,
i appreciate the scan.
it looks like you are giving up a lot of flexibility when you screw the ring into the top of the lightstand. i wonder when this feature is desirable. having the softbox fixed parallel to the lightstand with no way to tilt it down. and then having the light held by the fingers.
thanks RMS,

I have a strobist bracket like this one for that kind of setup: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/546375-REG/Manfrotto_026_026_Swivel_Umbrella_Adapter.html
I only use it when I put on a large softbox and want the weight to be somewhat evenly distributed. Other wise I don't use it when the weight of the light modifier is lite. I haven't had any issues with the weight on the finger grips on my PCB White Lightnings with the speedring-to-bracket-to-light stand type setup.

This is when using heavier modifiers. BTW you won't use it on regular lightstand then you won't be able to tilt up/down like you mention. But if you use say a c stand with grip arm and right connector or a boom arm then you can do the tilt.
