Probably not in the next days. But I think a lot of 100 MPs will arrive this week (including yours?) and many other people will post shots of flowers and cats ;-) wide open.

More shots? You're kidding, right?!

I would never consider any evaluation of a lens that included sharpening.

I would normally agree but I can usually tell how much sharpening was added and kinda judge anyway. While all of his samples were indeed sharpened in his post #6 the resolving power shown in them is still fairly amazing! I mean one can't sharpen what isn't there in the first place after-all.

On the other hand for almost $2,000 I'd be REALLY pissed if it wasn't!!

even if boring shots, they are useful to have put out there... thanks for spending the time to get them up for us.

There where only about 100 brick shots. We need more

You don't buy a super-fast f/1,2 lens to have sharp corners when you stop it down. Tests like these are all setup just to show how much better Zeiss is
All the main reasons to buy the 85/1,2 are gone here. Things like f/1,2.The bokeh and capabilities to shot in low light. And the fantastic background blur.

That's not true, at least not for me. The 1.2/85 (and the 2.0/100) are travel lenses for me, which I use wide open for portraits and also stoped down for landscapes.
And the aim of this test was not to show how much better the Zeiss is, it was just a test for me, whether the new Zeiss has any defects and whether it can substitute the Canon lens (as a travel lens).
So far I will keep both lenses, because I like the Canon better for people (smoother bokeh).

If you don't like the test (or the result), just don't read it.

But how can I know if I like or don't like the test without reading it

Boris, thanks for posting this test here in the correct forum for Canon-mount SLR gear. The ZE lens is a Canon mount lens, as all Sigma, Tamron etc. lenses for the Canon EOS system are.

I prefer a well-conducted test with less relevance over a bad and misleading test any day

I think with a quick view you can see that this is a test about sharpness at different apertures, tested on a brick-wall. If this is not relevant for you, then just stop reading there.

no test is perfect, but i'd have preferred to - instead of the bricks - see similar controlled-setting shots that compared the lens' drawing of in-focus and OOF elements of the same scene. when i think of rendering, the background bokeh/OOF areas are just as important as the foreground. but ymmv.

While I basically agree with abam, I think appreciation is due as the OP was willing to take the time and have the trouble to share his test with anyone interested.

To those who are not interested or think it's not a valuable test, that's fine.
I just think there is no need to rub it in the OP's face, as his intentions were good.
Reactions like these make some people think that having the trouble to share their tests is just not worth it.

I would say Abam's reply was polite and to the point, as he explained his point of view without slamming the OP.

Bobu, thank you.
If you do further testing and if you find the time, please be so kind as to share it with us.

The 100mm Zeiss is a wonderful piece of glass. The 85L is a miracle by itself. Both are able to create lots of EOSfun. But brickwalls never do (to my taste). If I was "Bauherr" of my own house again I would maybe be interested in these kind of shots. But since I had my current house built (BTW: built by one great German building contractor!) I have no interest anymore. Sorry Boris Your efforts may have appreciation of some pixelpeepers here, but most of us want better creativity than brickwall series as a show of what a good piece of Zeiss lens is capable of. Show us your portraits, since that's what the 85L piece of the arena is... Thanks and have EOSfun anyway.
