Maybe it's the Sigma's IQ that's causing the slightly soft-looking photos? Or even motion blur? Because the D700's High ISO is extremely good and supposed to preserve a lot of detail even at 3200 and such. Maybe sell the Siggy and get a Nikon 80-200/2.8 AF-D? I've gotten great results on a D90 shooting HS basketball, although one of the gyms I shot at was a college gym and the lighting was superb.. USF.
thinking the same thing on the siggy. Hate it becuase its a nice lens. Love your pics and that is the exact quality I was expecting at 3200 on the D700. Thanks for the post. A couple more questions for you ref your shooting. Were you using Standard - Neutral or Vivid. What were the setting within, and, were you shooting auto D-lighting? Or, just tell me what all your settings were for comparision. I need to figure out the issue becuase it keeps costing me money. ha thanks. James
I shot RAW the whole game, and processed my images in LR. I have to say though, if I just converted the RAW files into JPEGs I still would have been very pleased with the images. No flash was used either.
Haha, thanks for the complements. I actually own a D2H, the D90 was borrowed from a friend of mine just for that game since it had over 5,000 people in attendance (rivalry basketball game). The D2H just sat on the ground, happily, while I was using RF-602's to trigger it wirelessly and shoot the wide at the same time I shot the telephoto with the D90. I wasn't too shaken up with the difference between 4.5 FPS and 8 FPS and was more than satisfied with the results.
NOOO. I need all the advice and I want you to continue. PLeaseeeee, I am trying to work through set up, skills, whatever it is so I can get great looking pics. Been in the army for 26 yrs, have very thick skin, bring it on some more.

You've been in the army for more than I've been alive.
I'm 16 years old and a junior in high school, haha.
Thank you for the kind words. I will definitely keep it up.
I like shooting with the 50/1.8 for under the hoop action, but after a while I begin to start missing the capabilities of zooming so I switch the lens during a timeout or something.
Here's something taken with the D2H + 50/1.8. Freshman basketball game taken at my high school, lighting isn't too bad there either. With the 80-200/2.8 I can get about 1/320-1/400 @ f/2.8, ISO 1600. The D2H isn't too great at ISO 1600 though (even in RAW, which is what I shoot 90% of the time for almost everything since the D2H's RAW files are a joy to process in LR because of the size) which is why I'm considering getting a D90 or a D300. http://eluisphoto.zenfolio.com/img/v5/p177359608-4.jpg
Nikon D2H + 50/1.8 @ f/2.2, ISO 800, 1/200sec.

Please post a couple more shots that you took with your 80-200. Which model of the 80-200 do you have? I need the 80-200 2.8 AF-s that is non digital to shoot on my FF D700.
look good. I will keep you on my list and send you some more if I get to chance. It is good chatting back and forth. Need to work more on it, but will get there.
