p.1 #1 · Voigtlander Question

I am soon ready to jump into the world of Leica and was wondering where do you get Voigtlander lenses coded for M8??

I am looking at the 35mm 1.4 MC verison.

Thanks

Tobin

Only Leica sells coded lenses. All others, you must code yourself.

There are companies which do it though. I am not sure who to recommend in Canada. Kindermann is a great dealer, but I don't know if they do it?

Try Cameraquest.
John Milich will mill the mount for you on existing lenses:

I'd say it's not nesessary to code a 35 mm lens for M8. I've never seen any cyan corners on my M8 with it, but some with the 28/2.
The wider the lens; the worse the problem. 35 mm is sort of on the boarder.

I once tested various 35s, including both 35 Cron ASPH and 35 Lux ASPH, and the Lux needed coding wide open. The Cron could get by without.

That's very wierd since the filter is infront of the lens, not behind it. For an M9 it would make sense though, because of different rear nodal points of the lenses and the filter being on the sensor. Or are you only referring to vignetting, not cyan corners?

Cyan corners. The 35 Lux collects light from a larger area, which apparently made a difference. It sounds a bit weird, but I saw it clearly, again and again. The thread is here, in case you would like to read it:

The place where I can order the lens said they could pen it themselves

what does that mean?

It means they're taking a Sharpie and blacking out the appropriate pin spots so the lens will "read" correctly, as I understand it.

That works fine, if done right, but it does wear off, so either you have to freshen it from time to time, or get a proper coding done.
