Honestly.....

I personally have a problem with using a flash on wildlife. Many will use the flash far too strong on the birds & that can be bad. It's only supposed to be used as a fill....

Anyhow - I've looked at them & from what I see I feel the RRS seems the better way to go. Looks far less cumbersome.

But that's just me....

Any reason you are not using the hot shoe Nader? You are looking for fill flash so separation of your flash from the lens is not necessary. Spend your money on a Better Beamer or other flash extender. A battery pack also helps so your flash can keep up if you start shooting rapid fire.

I have been using the flash + better beamer on the hot shoe with the 500mm. The results are ok...but I was thinking adding a flash bracket would improve the results. Wouldn't it? Are flash brackets worth the money?

I just did a search on "flash bracket" and this thread was the longest one that came up. Unfortunately it has more questions than answers.

I am using a Beamer on a 500/f4 (or shorter). So far the results with a 580 in the hot shoe are OK, but I have the same question as Nader.

Is anyone using a flash bracket to get the flash off the camera who is willing to share their results?

I'm using the Wimberley F-9 Flash Bracket mounted to the Wimberley WH-200 Tripod Head II and extremely happy with both.......
