Lovely shot as usual from you Contas.

Nalahm, I love that 70-200 mother and child shot and those N400 bird shots.
Paul Yi, very atmospheric Christmas streetshots!

This was taken at about 9:30am on 15 Dec this year, at the Neolithic tomb / monument of Newgrange in the Boyne Valley, Co Meath, Ireland. This is a fantastic 5000 year old site, fully excavated only in the 1960s.

This shot was one of many taken within 1.5 hours off stepping off the aircraft from Kuala Lumpur via Abu Dhabi!!

N 28-85 on 5D Mk III, ISO200, f5.7. I am travelling only with an iPad, so RAW processed with piRAWnha and resizes using Filterstorm. IPad processing/viewing leaves a lot to be desired!

Thanks Lenticular11, nice place and is a must go for most of photographers. At this time of the year and at this altitude, the air must be crystal clear and the rock wall must be stunning contrasty, I see Canon somehow could not depict what you saw and experienced, while 24-85mm is a good lens for this.Your Leica M8 must be an excellent choice, beside Leica , SD1 couples with a Zeiss lens is also suitable.

As far as the Canon not hacking the lighting etc, It was extremely tricky. The sun is so low and I took this shot with it just grazing the wall. The wall in this area is predominantly shiny white quartz, with some dark grey or black stones studded n it. The base stones are dark grey. I also have no doubt that Capture One Pro would make a much better job of recessing than piRAWnha.

Here us an image of the entrance. The winter solstice light illuminates the end of a 20m or so long passage at ground level, via the higher entrance called the 'roof-box'. The foot passage slopes upward, so by the end of this the light ray is now at ground level.

While this zoom lens is so convenient I let it do some portrait.

They have completely different character.

The Makro-Sonnar 100/2.8 is bar none the sharpest optic in the entire N series. It is sharper wide open at f/2.8 than N Planar 85/1.4 stopped down to f/2.8. You may experience double-edged bokeh at medium focusing distance, but this improves as you go into the macro range. Its autofocus is very slow and unable to catch most moving subjects.

Planar 85/1.4 has amazing capability to render e.g. the texture of garments realistically and with three dimensionality. At wide open it has a swirly dreamly look. The AF is reasonably fast.

Both lenses do not change length at any focusing distance, a design hallmark for the entire N-series with the sole exception of VS28-80/3.5-5.6 and a few very rare samples of the initial N Planar 50/1.4 production run.

N85 bokeh is very smooth and dreamy but not swirly, imho. Also my N 70-200 changes length with focusing distance too. Don't have N 70-300 but it probably does too.

But it can swirl:

This wasn't at MFD either...

I might have used the wrong word. I mean the bokeh has a certain characteristic to it and it feels like there is a circle occupying the center of the frame and the blurry corners somehow surround that circle in the center. It is not easy to describe with words. But sure dreamy it is.
