I have it and love it..... After I watched it, I watched the second video he put up on how he shot the whole thing... The fact that he had that 6x viewfinder on the LCD and just a monopod with a 400 was rather awesome. Then the 15mm on the ground aiming up during coin toss!? Love it! Guy is a genius.. I am going to try something similar at the Gator Bowl doing 60p to do slow motions of Bobby Bowden. I am alum so I want to do something neat for them, along with stills (it will be NOTHING like that though)
killer stuff. I wonder... I don't have a 7D, but am thinking about buying one to replace my 40D and an HD camcorder. but if you're going to put music over the video anyways, you could use the "auto" video focus from time to time during shooting, you'd just hear the focus motor humming/buzzing (which you don't care about anyways). I don't think you can follow focus that way... but you can press the focus button repeatedly while shooting perhaps?
am I understanding the limitations correctly?
regardless, having such ability to use manual focus is best but just looking for alternatives for us mere mortals.
ultimaterowdy, you won't be able to use the auto focus with decent results, it haunts, it's slow, etc. You will have to manually focus. It's one of the drawbacks, but as you just seen, it's very possible with good focus technic.
