Ordered a 5D Mark II from Adorama yesterday. Chose next day shipping (and paid a lot of money), I was assured it would arrive today. Guess what? It DID NOT get shipped out until today!! It is my daughters ballet concert this evening, that was why I paid to have it next day. What a let down. I have a 20D but it is hardly the same.
B&H was out of stock? You really should not wait until the last minute for a planned event, especially at this hectic time of year. Otherwise, buy from a local store.
Martin, The words were,"It did not ship until today," Adorama is at fault. They should refund your overnight shipping.
But it's great you are getting the MK2. I am stuck with the 20D!

I agree...but if you pay for overnight shipping, you have the right to assume you'll get the package the next day. If Adorama did not even ship until the next day, then they should refund the shipping costs.
If you spoke to someone in person and they assured you it would arrive in time, but it didn't, then it's their fault. But at the same time, if you *really* needed it, you would have done the smart thing and bought it in person at a local camera shop. You didn't because you wanted to save money, and you took the chance and lost out. That's your fault for not planning ahead, and for not making sure you had the gear in time.
For the future, ask yourself this: is it worth the extra money to not miss the shot? If it is, then don't be upset about being disappointed, because unfortunate things happen and it may not be in your control and you may not be to blame, but the bottom line is you missed out all the same.
If you still have time, go rent a 5D2 ASAP. That is, if the improvement in image quality and increased likelihood of getting the shot for the event is worth the money to you.
In summary, it MAY be their fault for not shipping as promised (if indeed you did secure a promise from them). But it is definitely your fault for not being adequately prepared.
I am not sure I would want to take some critical images with a camera I had minutes to learn. And the 5DMK2 is a camera that punishes you for bad technique or settings.
It still got shipped overnight it sounds like, but just went out a day late. Just like the others have said, you don't order things with such short notice, the battery probably wouldn't even have time to charge and how do you expect ot understand the camera right out of the box. I would just chalk it up as lesson learned and move on.

Settings, what settings? Shoot RAW and check the histogram.
While I do feel some sympathy, ordering something like that just prior to Christmas is taking a chance. I know from recent shipment experience that the usual suspects, UPS, FedEx are in a crunch.

The OP has every right to "wait til the last minute" if the seller is promising next day delivery at extra cost. It's not his fault ... not in the least. The expectation and the promise of next day delivery were put in front of him to take advantage of. To blame the OP is like blaming him for an auto accident by saying he should have been driving on a different street!
Unfortunately, the op chose an unreliable seller to begin with. It's not surprising that Adorama did not deliver. I once had a similar problem with them, and not even during a busy time of year. I even had a situation where Adorama sold a camera I had already bought to someone else and then notified me it was no longer available.
I don't do business with Adorama anymore. Haven't bought anything from them in 3 years.
I was in the same situation back then with the 1Ds2. They admitted that the camera sat on the loading dock overnight, and I got my shipping refunded. Was completely painless, other than the instant gratification part.

Martin.
Put down the camera and pick up the handycam. Surely you have relatives who'd love to relive the entire event.

I don't believe that any vendor can promise a delivery date as Fedex/UPS is beyond their control, only a shipping date. Usually there is some fine print that a reasonable effort will be made to ship same day if the order is receives by xxxx time. In any case liability is usually limited to the difference between 1-day and 2-day shipping.
if I order from b&h before noon, I get stuff the next day (usually withing 24hrs w/UPS) with regular 3 day ground UPS here in DC. With Adorama the same transaction can take 3-4 days.
Ado left a bad taste in my mouth over a recent used dept episode...I avoid them now if at all possible
