By general consensus on this forum, "new" means recently purchased, less than a month usually, with little to no use, with substaintial warranty remaining. If you buy a camera and keep it in the box for a year and a day you can't and shouldn't call it new.
If you just recently purchased an item, that is already 8 months old you shouldn't call it new, even if it is new to you. Doing so will definitely get you fair and poor ratings in your feedback.
