so the question becomes..based on your initial use of the new 70-200 is it $800-900 better than the "Old" version which can be picked up for about $1,500 on the Buy Sell? Thank you for posting your images and comments.

I can say without hesitation, this lens is worth the extra $800-$900 for me
I have no regrets. The new lens makes sense for me because I'm using it with the D3x and I like to shoot nature. It has the performance and features I want, all in a nice neat little package. Portability and flexibilty are key factors for me. A lot depends on what you can afford, how and what you shoot, and what body you use. I think the pricing of the new VRII is consistent with the rest of Nikon's lineup. Not that I agree with their pricing strategy of late, but hey 'if u wanna play, u gotta pay'. All that does is make the deals on the VRI that much sweeter. It is a legendary lens and if it fit my needs or my budget required it, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up. I've seen some ridiculous bargains lately. I do believe the new one is a worthy successor which raises the bar considerably and follows the ground breaking performance set by the 14-24 and 24-70. I also think the price of the new one has a lot of people balking though, and understandably so. That $800-$900 is a big deal, and perhaps a deal breaker for many.
