p.1 #1 · SpectraView II Calibration Problem – Greenish Cast
Since upgrading to Windows7 x64, my SpectraView software/hardware will not set a proper white balance when calibrating my NEC display. It produces a greenish color cast. (My equipment list is at the end of this post.) The NEC software/hardware had been working fine on Vista x64. I did a clean install of Windows7.
I have tried the obvious things like cleaning the screen. I have also completely uninstalled SpectraView, rebooted and reinstalled it. I even did a fresh download of SpectraView 1.1.03 from the NEC site and installed that. I also reinstalled the latest nVidia driver. And I even ran the X-Rite i1Diagnostics and the hardware was reported as “successful”.
If I calibrate the display with SpectraView using the “Native” white point setting, the calibrated display looks fine. If I calibrate the display with SpectraView by specifying a white point (like D65, 6500K, etc.) then the display has a very greenish cast.
I used the colorimeter window in Spectraview to measure a white sample for the Native calibration and also for the D65 calibration, Here is a screen capture image of the SpectraView Colorimeter windows:
Of course, neither image will look greenish on a properly calibrated monitor. What is important is that for the SpectraView calibration that used the my NEC display’s Native white balance (the one that looks correct to the eye) the colorimeter is reporting a color temperature of 3375K. For the SpectraView calibration that used a selected white point of D65 (the one that looks greenish to the eye) the colorimeter is reporting a color temperature of 6565K. Does this indicate that the colorimeter itself has failed? It was working fine on Vista x64 just before I made the switch to Windows7 x64.
So, do I have a faulty colorimeter or is something else wrong?
Here’s my equipment list:

There are known issues with Windows 7 and SpectraView II right now; it's not certified for 7 yet.
NEC has indicated they'll be resolved in an upcoming update. Still, I'd contact NEC support and see (a) if they're aware of the specific issue you're having and (b) there's a beta release available in the meantime.

I am using SV 2, identical version/build on W7 x64, which was an upgrade from Vista x64, 2490WUXi. No problem.
It probably won't make a difference but there is a new 195.62 nVidia driver available.

Thanks for all the replies.
I’ve been in touch with NEC support. They had me do a number of tests and concluded that my eye-one hardware is faulty. It appears to be reading the blue channel incorrectly. They are sending me a new one under warranty. I should have it next week. Hopefully that will fix the problem.
Ping Alan321: The “Native” setting in SV forces the display to its maximum luminance value. It cannot be set any lower if “Native” is chosen as the White Point
Ping Pondria: Thanks for the heads up on the new driver.

I'll close this thread with a report that it was a bad sensor causing my problems. I received a replacement MDSVSENSOR eye-one Display 2 from NEC today and all is working great again. I guess it was just coincidence that the sensor failed at the same time I switched to Windows 7.
