I picked up one of these bad boys on the recommendations of some of the crew here on the alt forum, and I have to say I am impressed so far in the little bit the weather out here has given me a chance to use it. So I ask; Can we pull off a Samyang/Opteka/Rokinon/Bower (etc.) image thread?

It might be me but the bokeh looks a little busy on this lens wide open
It's you. Lol. No, really, the lens is for 85mm what the Sigma 50/1.4 is for 50mm lenses; in general a soft and nice bokeh. There will always be some combinations of focus distance and background distance and light causing problems.
You can check more wide open samples over at the "Admirable" blur thread.
Thanks guys for all the posts with this lens. I am really liking the colors coming out of this lens.
Seen the signature smooth bokeh before but did not realize how well it handled colors.
Matt, can we see some comparison shots with 85L before you sell it?
Can we see some more wide open portrait shots?
Great shots everyone. I know there others around here with some great images that have yet to share on this thread...

It's certainly a fine lens and a bargain. Given this, I'll be very interested to see how the 14/2.8 performs. Who's going to beta that one for us?
That and the 35/1.2... If I can find a decent source for Canadians, I would be willing to try 'em both out.

I would love to do a side by side comparison, however the weather out here has been horrible, we have been getting pounded with storms for weeks now, only breaking up occasionally for purely torrential rains. If the 85L is still around when the weather improves, I will try to do an informal comparison.
Stop hogging the jet stream up there and all the storms!
We haven't had hardly any rain yet in Northern California
and I am starting to worry about whether there will be any
snow to ski on this year.
I can post some comparison shots with my 85L when I get my Rokinon
in a few days.

Northern California... Lovely. Did a road trip down to LA along the Coast, and Northern Cali was the highlight for us. What area are you in?

I am in the S.F. bay area. Yes, the Monterrey/BigSur coastline is beautifuI stretch along highway 1. I need to take a trip up north and see some of the beautiful areas up north in Western Canada.Want to do some skiing up there at Whistler/Blackcomb.
I like the color of blue on the light posts in your 2nd shots rendered by the Rokinon.
Hope you get some better weather to shoot in.
