Looks like the area above and behind the Wave Bart. I always liked these textures which are at such divergence to the swooping lower formations. Isn't there a small arch up there? Genomes notwithstanding, nicely layered shot.
Very cool really like how you have captured both vertical and horizontal patterns here in 1 image looks like an awesome place to explore time and time again, nicely seen
Thank you for the kind comments. I didn't shoot for it's inherent beauty, but because it had such a great variety of classic sandstone features all in one area.
As Tim mentioned, this was taken of the high wall behind and beyond the Wave. In fact, the bottom fins are a part of the formation that is the "second wave". The little alcove/arch that Tim was talking about is further toward the main Wave, but part of the same formation. I'll attach a picture of that for reference.
Dave, Deb, Robyn and I all gathered here in the early afternoon, and studied the various levels of the formation, as the clouds and light danced over it. It seemed to have the full panoply of "pillows", cracks, swirls, layers, ribs and fins as are found throughout this area of the southwest.
So I thought it was worth this 4 shot vertical pano. I hope to fill a good part of the living room wall with its details.

What super cool layers in #1. Robyn does a beautiful job setting off that arch in #2. That top down view in the last is really sweet! I don't think I have seen that shot before. I think that would be a really cool shot when there is some shadows down there to really set off those curves of the wave area.
Love Robyn adorning the small arch....really nicely done.
But....Oh, my! The last view is incredible, puts a sense of variety and scale to the place before unknown, and one can also see the myriad photo ops available here. Many thanks for sharing that, Bart!
