I am by no means a concert photographer. My roommate's band had a gig at the Crump Theater and asked me if I could take some shots for their band. His dad is the bass guitarist and lead singer, his younger brother is the drummer, a family friend is the lead guitarist, and my roommate is another lead guitarist.

They've been a band for a couple years, and I liked what I heard. They're a hard rock/punk band.. not really big yet but still sounded amazing live.

Anyways, here are some of the shots I liked the most, and a link to the gallery. Taken with my 50D, 17-50mm 2.8, at ISO 3200 for the most part.

pretty nice shots! i would like to make a few suggestion for the pics you posted here.

#1 very nice capture of the body language, next time if you can recomp the photo more to the left including more of the shadow and less of the empty background, the photo will look more "complete" (also the big black box on the right is competing for attention in the photo)

#2 pretty good in my book if you can move the comp more to the left (less empty/uninteresting background) and give more space to the direction he is facing, the front of the stage. Also i would darken the bright colored box, again, competing for attention.

#3, this one you can probably try cropping tight. Crop out the arm of the other guitar player and there are too much of the black speaker which is distracting ( i would try cropping the bottom just a little above the edge of the stage)

#4 is a nice comp and show off the drummer pretty nice. But because the drummer is very far away, the focus of the image is somewhat "lost". I would suggest to increase the curve in PP to brighten up the other players but keep the same brightness for the drummer so the focus of the photo will switch from the drummer to the whole band instead.

Thank you for the advice! Although I'm not planning on going into this specific type of photographic work, your advice on framing helps and can be applied to everything. I have not done any cropping to these, but I will apply your suggestions in PP.
