My vagabond battery died yesterday.(my fault)
I know best and cheapest way would be to order it from Alien Bees.
Problem is, i have shoot Tuesday and there is no way i can have it shipped and charged by then.
My question is, can i use ups battery instead as quick replacement?
Its weaker (12Ah) then original 15Ah battery http://www.frys.com/product/3002479?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
or i should go to cragen and look for something else?
Since I am an outdoor photographer and often carry my Vagabonds (I have 5 or 6) a long ways, I went to the smaller batteries. I use 10 or 12 aH batteries in most of mine. Best place to get batteries isn't though mail order, but to get them from Batteries Plus store (a national chain.) I get the SLA type designed for use in power wheelchairs etc. These are deep cycle and designed to be completely depleted without damage. Look for Batteries Plus, or check a large medical supply store that sells power wheelchairs. Walmart might sell them too, either in automotive dept. or in toy dept. (Batteries for the little cars for kids.) I've never ordered a battery from Buff. THe shipping is expensive.
Just FYI, you can use any battery or pack as long as it puts out between 10V-15V. It doesn't have to be SLA. If you're stuck someplace with just a bunch of AA Eneloops, you can daisy chain 10 of 'em together if need be.
Mine thankfully hasn't died but my partner's has. He went and purchased a deep cycle motorcycle battery I believe from Batteries Plus but it could have been a local motorcycle shop and it works great. It doesn't quite have the duty cycle that the original battery does but it is close.
