i dont have pics to show at the moment, but i can tell you that my 70-200 VR2 on my D700 is amazing! I cant complain about anything...
i have never heard of a close focusing problem with this lens until this thread either? Weird... Guess im lucky or something because mine doesn't have this issue, or atleast i haven't come acrossed it yet?
Wow! Great shots Bruce. Reminds me of shots taken with the 200VR.
Are these this straight out of camera? Standard picture control?
My 70-200mm VR II will be arriving this monday and I hope it performs just as good with my D3s as yours have with the D3x
These had the usual pp done in capture NX2. This would include levels and a bit of contrast. My in camera settings are shot in neutral picture style - 1 hue +1 sat sharpening was set a 3.
One other thing, I am intrigued by your statement: "Compared to the 200 f2 it would be comparable at f2.8"
Just to be clear, do you mean wide-open performance of the VR II is comparabe to the 200 2.0 stopped down 1 stop? If so, that would be awesome!

Here's a gallery of general/misc/home 'walk around the garden' shots. Full frame body. I paid little attention to camera-shake or ISO - just took some snaps:
