Derek: Excellent execution here; thanks for the explanation. I'm surprised with the 30 sec exposure you didn't get more movement with the stars. Great job with the blend as well.

This is just amazing and you have inspired me to try this out!
Great Raymond,
I look forward to your posts. You have a lot of beautiful places in Canada to try this type of shot out. Actually one of my dream night shots would be of the night sky, northern lights and some kind of cool foreground. You are in a great place for that up north.
I did try darkening the sky to look more black and it looked out of place with the ocean color. Although a b&w conversion might work. However that did give me the idea to desturate the sky a bit and I think might look a bit better.
Great photo, you did really good capturing and PP. The ocean and rocks look perfect as is and I prefer the less purple look in the 2nd version. I'd be curious to see the sky portion not pushed as much as you did. I think it would benefit from going a little darker. It starts to look noisy around the horizon as it is now and would be less so if not pushed as much as you did. Thanks for sharing and the inspiration to do some star work like that.

Cool stuff here. Shooting star shots is lot's of fun. It's definately a bit of trial and error, but it's cool when the shots turn out. I wouldn't get too caught up in the sky tones, it definately should be mainly blue, but the color can vary, so don't get caught up on that.
