p.1 #1 · Cyclocross- A Bit Artsy?

I have plenty of action shots for this event, but wanted to make a couple of artsy type shots of the event to show it in a different light.
What are your thoughts?
I appreciate your input.
Tim
Also, if you're at all interested, more shots just posted in Sport Forum.

Not bad! The first has immediacy, punch and IMPACT! I like it.

The 2nd is OK. The first is great. You has done captured da moment. Change nothing. Seriously.

Love both, Tim. I might crop a bit off the bottom of the first. The blur is pretty darn intense there.

Tim,
That first shot is absolutely first rate! You might clone out those folding chairs, though.
A bike race where the participants carry their bikes up the hills? Strange concept.
Charlie
Additional comment added later: Ah, yes, better without the chairs. You demonstrate a deft hand with the cloning tool.

Whoa Tim. I love the first one. Both are good but the first one is perfect as is. A really artsy, dramatic and cool action shot.

Thanks, Scott!
Not bad idea. I'll have to give the crop a go, or maybe graduate it a bit more.

Yes, the blur is PP. No tilt-shifts in my bag!

Ah, good eye, Charlie! I'm always amazed how I can spot things immediately in the shots of others, but miss something so obvious in my own! Anyhow, I reposted a new version with the chairs cloned out. (my version. yours was great, but in the interest of integrity, I did my own since I may print this one).
Yes, cyclocross is a bizarre, but very tough sport. I just made my own purchase this week and am going to give it a go.

I think the first shot sums up the sport perfectly, You have captured a great moment. Well done Tim and I agree with Scott about the crop.

The first one probablly would have worked better if you focused on the riders legs than the log and maybe overexpose it a bit. I like the second one...maybe try dodging the edges a bit or vignetting. Cyclocross in B&W really gives a feel or ambiance of cyclocross racing...grit, grunge and mud...

#1...very cool shot, I love it. I also like using blurring to add interesting textures. Not sure if it works for me in #2.

I guess I'm going up stream here but I like the 2nd quite a bit more than the first. to me it does show all of cyclocross, the trudge, competion, man and bike. the first isn't bad but it(to me) is just black tights and a log(small one at that) and really doesn't say race or max heart rate---ron s.

I actually have gone back and made another edit after the lawn chair edit. I like the new crop, but it's not posted here.

Thank you, Dejan.
Yeah, I'm struggling with focus issues. Center point, AI focus, and I still seem to miss a lot, although those weren't the circumstances for this particular shot.
Glad you like feel of the second one.

Thank you, Geoff. It's my latest fascination - this blur thing. Trying to figure out when it works and when it doesn't.

Yeah, the first one is surely more abstract as far as the actual sport goes. I wanted a bit of that though, so I guess it's good in that respect; just not a representation of the actual race elements more visible in the second image.
