p.1 #1 · Light Streak Abstract

The other day I was talking to a photographer who said that she was going to be having an exhibit in a gallery sometime soon. Her booker said that their would be six other artists there and that kind of threw her off. As we practice photography we need to keep in mind that we are all artists. Anyways yesterday I went out and decided to make some art. It was a pretty crazy idea but I decided that it should happen. My friend and I went to a busy intersection and wanted to get some car streaks. While we were there I made this image. I made it by taking a long exposure by holding still for a few sec then rotating the camera like crazy. As we are making art it is important to look at things differently and sometime make something crazy. Its lots of fun.

C&C Appreciated

I don't particularly like the Walgreens, but the part below and to the right of the drugstore is sweet.

I like the the light patterns created by the traffic but the camera movement seems to put if over the top for me. Thanks for posting.

I've been reading "Understanding Shutter Speed" by Bryan Peterson. In it, he talks about this kind of thing. He shows examples of many different techniques, from moving the camera while pressing shutter button to spinning on his heels to get some of these abstract shots.

I really like the idea and have decided to try some of this out. I really like your idea! But I agree with monoprint...the walgreens in relative focus is taking away from it, IMHO. Maybe start moving your camera right away so all the lights form streaks. But I love where you're going with this and I think you have a great idea for some fun, off-the-wall shots! Way to think outside of the box!
