I second Doug on the wasp queen. Your wasps are much more hairy than ours. Is your northerly latitude a factor in that?

Kenny - I'm not sure re the hairyness - they always come out much hairyer than they look to naked eye.

I'm amazed at the relatively uniform visibility of fine fur/hair on the wasp queen. The very small diameter of these hairs usually means that they can only be seen when photographed approximately perpendicular to the hair's long axis. The hair facing more or less directly towards the camera usually isn't visible in photos - perhaps focus stacking has helped in this example. Or was it a case of the wasp queen recently having a hairdo creating a hair pattern that runs parallel to its longest body axis?!

Regardless of how it happened, it's an exceptional photo!
