p.1 #1 · D700 Interval Timer not working?

I was playing around last night trying to take a series of images on the timer. Pg 203 in the D700 manual - Interval Timer Photography - could not get it to work??

The problem was when I tried using the timer. If I set the camera to take 5 images each 1 second apart and used the "NOW" setting - the camera would take the sequence of 5 images as programed. The problem occurs when I change from the "NOW" setting to using the "Timer". I would set the timer for 1 minute (......

DUH - I JUST figured it out! The timer is not a count down timer but a "START Time" timer so I need to set the physical TIME I want the photos to be taken. I guess that's why they said to make sure the internal clock is set accurately.

I guess my next question is: Is it possible to take "Interval" photos using a count down timer? I would like to be able to press the shutter and have a series of images taken 10-20-30 seconds after I instruct.

Set the clock icon to 10 seconds
Using your example, set the Intervals to 3 x 1 =
* that's 3 intervals of a burst of 1 photo for a total of 3 photos

That will take 3 photos 10 seconds apart starting now. There's no countdown timer perse, but if you add in a start time plus the above interval you'll get the intervals you're looking for.

This all assumes you're shooting faster than a 1/60th of a second. If you're shooting slower than that - then you will need to manually calculate the interval time. If you choose an interval time too fast, the shutter won't close in time to take the next interval.

The part which tripped me initially was that I had to take 2400 photos, but the interval only goes up to 999. That's why you can set the # of bursts you take per interval. In my example, I shot 837 intervals times 3 bursts per interval for a total of around 2400 shots.

Here was the setup for my interval shots:

Make sense?
