I don't have any experience whatsoever with the Mark III. Is it a good high ISO camera? Could it considered more than "acceptable" at ISO 3200?
Overall, I'd like to hear from experienced Mark III RAW shooters as to the overall quality of the Mark III files and the extent to which they can be pushed, manipulated, etc.
Steve, the raw files stand up very well to PP of all sorts. ISO 3200 is no issue at all and pushing to 6400 is a no brainer. Files sharpen up like crazy and large prints are not a problem. Pretty much do anything you would do with your 1Ds2. Out of camera JPEGS can be tuned to be quite nice and print ready. Remember the camera was really designed for sports/press photographers who a lot of times don't mess with PP. Hope you doing alright.

Thanks,

I am using mk III for 1.5 years, I would say max useful ISO is ISO1600 to me.
This demonstrates how the 5D2 has a resolution advantage, and is contrastier (this is a noise test only, the 1d3 sharpens up to similar to the 5D2 but has a stronger AA filter imo. Also the 1d3 shot is very slightly misfocused (I manually focused somewhere else on the chart)
This also demonstrates how a lot of users say the 5D2 is more "red" than other cameras (more yellow)
I shoot a lot of high ISO events with mine, and much prefer it over my 5D2 for that type of work. I don't hesitate to use either at 3200 but only go to 6400 for unique and/or otherwise unavoidable situations. 3200 is remarkable though. This one is obviously worked over but it shows what the camera is capable of at high ISO:
i've noticed that at certain shots my MKIII takes a back seat to my 5DII.
At certain points (bright scene with deep color shadows) the MKIII produces more noise than the 5DII.
I've also noticed that a pushed RAW from my 5DII looks cleaner from it's 1DIII equivalent.
just my obvservation
I've shot the whole 2009 wedding season with this combo.
