I purchased Portrait Professional about 1 year ago. Could be me but I found it difficult and somewhat useless on some photos. I was thinking about buying Imagenomics. Can anyone please give me some feedback either way before I make the purchase. Currently I am doing most of my skin softening thru steps outlines in Kelby's Photoshop CS3 book.
Buy the whole suite or noiseware and portraiture. I also found other software difficult to use. The noiseware can smoth skin tone but portraiture is so easy to use. I found noiseware easier than noiseninja and felt it worked better.
This is what I'm looking for someone that has experienced both. So your saying buy Imagenomic suit. Is the noiseware better than noiseninja which I currently have? Thanks for your reply

If you are doing professional retouching for fashion or beauty, using plugins is a very bad idea for skin regardless.
That could be why they make PP as a standalone also. I use both PP9 and Imagenomics on my Mac. I tend to use PP9 more. I find that PP9 is easier to use and does a better job. However, you can easily overdo it and make your subjects look plastic. Go easy on the controls and you'll be OK.
The cool thing about PP is that is could not be easier to use and it is very fast. Just a couple minutes per picture. I seldom do any fixing to peoples faces except on extreme closeups which I seldom do, so for 5 or 6 photos per shoot it is perfect for me.
I have Imagenomic as well but I never use it. I just haven't taken the time to learn how to use it.

Photo Tools by On One is another good choice. (www.ononesoftare.com)
It has a lot of great actions in the set. The degree of correction can be dialed back before importing the layer into CS4.
Once the layer is in, you can do further modification on the layer (like erasing the softness in the eyes and hair for better detail) before flattening the image. I have been using photo tools 1.0 for a couple of years, I know there is a newer version.
You can download a demo of Imagenomics Portraiture. So far I like it and I think I will be purchasing it.
As for retouching manually for beauty, yeah that may be true but for normal portrait sessions and weddings, etc. it's hard to justify that amount of PP. And Portraiture does a pretty damn good job if you don't overdo it.
I use both. I like Portraiture for batch processing and for its work on skin. I like the shaping, etc. tools in PP. If I have a large shoot, I batch with Portaiture for the proofs. For orders of individual shots I then I will go in and use PP if it is warranted or the client desires those kinds of changes. But for skin processing I like Portraiture better. The Mama Shan tutorials (I believe they are all still on YOutube) are also very good and the actions are great too. Lots of good options!
