p.1 #1 · Acratech plate for 5Dii

Has anyone used the Acratech camera plate for the 5DII?

I've got an Acratech ballhead that I'm pleased with, and currently have a RRS camera plate for my 20D. I'm going to buy a 5DII and looking to get all the extra gear now. The Acratech plate is cheaper than other brands, but their other plates are made to fit multiple cameras. Their site says this one is just for the 5DII, but the slot for the mounting screw says otherwise. I'm wondering how snug it'll fit with the potential for it to slide.

I'm leaning towards the RRS plate, but thought I'd see if anyone has had good luck with the Acratech one before I buy. Thanks.

I've got two Acratech plates for my 5D II; an L plate and a regular flat plate. Both are fine. Really like my Achratech stuff.

I won't buy anything from RRS if they're going to give money to bigotted causes.

Search if you're curious about RSS's politics.

RRS stuff is great - expensive, but it works

Don't know anything about their politics, but I'm happy to be a bigot if they want to give me money

I have the Kirk L bracket for the 5D2 and it is very nice.

I've been using the exact Acratech plate that you reference on my 5D2 since I purchased the camera this past summer -- no complaints at all, it fits well and I don't even notice it on the camera. I've also used similar custom Acratech plates on all of my xxD series bodies, and they work very well. (I use an Acratech head for travel, and an Arca Swiss head on my larger tripod).

I didn't know that Acratech is making L plates/brackets.... Since when did they start doing that?

My thoughts exactly. I didn't see one on their website, unless you're referring to the "Universal L Bracket" they have on their site.
