p.1 #1 · landscape - starburst and flare - UPDATED

EXIF is in tact - Was shooting with a 3 stop Hitech hard edge GND and seemed to get a double reflection and that cast text off of the Cokin Z Pro 77mm ring onto my photo (cropped the bottom).

Haven't done a lot with starbursts and was wondering if this 'head on' presentation is the cause of the flare seen in the photo? Would of it been reduced if my angle to the sun was different?

any suggestions on this would surely be helpful.

Thanks,

Peyton,

Don't know enough to comment other than it is very dark on this monitor - will look again on calibrated monitor at home.

Surely someone familiar with filters and flare can offer a comment?

Bob,

It's pretty dark on my monitor here at work, but looks good on the Laptop LCD @ home - maybe the next step is to have that calibrated

I do not understand "angle to the sun" - the light is going to travel a straight line into your lens anyway (understand I tend to be very literal).

You might check this link http://aaronburdick.wordpress.com/

don't know if it will help or not. I've read critiques suggesting 'never' use a filter because light tends to reflect back off the sensor and bounce around, but have no idea if true or not - I use UV filters, simply to keep dust & grime off the front element, maybe the placebo effect but works for me OTOH, the links suggests the filters you're using.

regards,

Bob

Peyton this is a very nice image as it stands.

Interestingly I could obtain this same effect and a variety of nuances with a filter
called Knoll Light Factory. Check it out.
