My 70-200 2.8 IS
It 'seems' like the AF on it is sort of unreliable, especially in AI SERVO. My camera did tip over and fall out of my pelican case 3 weeks ago at a wedding, landed on the end of lens body, denting the filter threads, I used a special vise to bring it back out and my cap/filters fit now, but ever since then it seems like the AF is not perfect?
I will drop it off at CPS when I get a chance, but I always thought AF issues were either on or off, like it either WONT focus at all, or is fine....this sort of "well it seems slower/unreliable" seems a bit odd?
If something is bent or cracked internally, the AF can be hanging up, and slow. I'd stop using it before it burns out the motor or something else and get it fixed.

"i am going to drop it off at CPS"
I was just curious, for curiosity sake.
I did see your original post but it sounded like you were / are intending to send it to CPS when you get the chance. My 70-200 + 1DMkII were on a tripod and were blown over by the wind (very windy BTW & tripod on uneven ground) and the fall knocked the AF out. It was OK but not great - like the experiences you are describing. I called CPS who said not to use it as there was a chance of greater damage if I did. I realise my post was lacking explanation but I hope I've explained myself a bit better now.
