Granted, I wouldn't do that level of post processing with every photo -but it fits what I had in my head when I shot it and it took all of two minutes to do...
I am really enjoying using Topaz detail, John. It's amazing how well that piece of software works. I'd have to agree with you about not using it to this extent on every image, but it's certainly a striking image. My own preference is for the bold detail and micro contrast enhancement presets. Just right for my tastes.
Nice image. I think the level of detail brought out is very amazing (compare the oof body in both). I think the level of processing fits the image and would be less obvious if this were not a comparison. Its a little strong for me but that is all personal.
Again, I'll commit here that the image is slightly enlarged compared to what it should be and this causes some loss of detail and contrast. Again, I don't know if it as issue with me, with Firefox 3.1.5 or with your hosting. I do know that if I copy the image adn open it in photoshop, it is correctly sized at 100%. On FM the images is about 1" wider that what it should be for 1024px, or about 110% of original.
Nice image, not sure what to say about size other than to call attention to it.
I, too, like Topaz Detail. As to it's brightening the highlights too much, that is easy to fix with a layer-mask, painting back in the lower mask in just those white areas. I do it all the time when I choose to use Detail.
