Hi!

I'm just about to upgrade from a 1D to a 1Ds, as pixels are more important to me than fps. I have a 50/1.4 Takumar on which I've performed a leverectomy to avoid the ID mirror hitting it. Can I assume that if there's no problem with the 1D, there won't be one with the 1Ds?

Also, I see that many 5D users have to shave their mirrors to use certain 'alt' lenses. As I see no references to shaving 1D mirrors, does that infer that there's less of a problem with those bodies? Do 1D(s) mirrors ever have to be shaved?

Being a FF camera, the chances of having mirror issues with a 1Ds are higher than with a 1.3x crop like your 1D, but generally speaking the entire 1-Series will be less prone to mirror issues than a 5D or 5D MkII.

The best way to tell if a lens may have mirror issues is to look at the adapted/converted lens from the side. Does anything at all protrude beyond the furthest edge of the mount? If not, then you are safe. If so, then proceed with caution.

I have a 1ds3 and alot of alt lenses which all work fine with no mirror hanging issues and the mirror is not shaved. Even my Rokkor 58 1.2 has infinity focus and doesn't hit the mirror after I filed down the rear element retainer.
I haven't tried the Leica 19 or 15 yet, not sure if they would hang or not.

I think the 1D and 1Ds may use the mirror box. In which case there shouldn't be any difference. Anyone know for sure?
