Hello,

Does any of you know anything about this lens ? I got it as a present from my grandpa - have not tried it yet - it is in postage - from Australia.

Wondering what kind of performance I can get with this lens and D700. Any feed back would be nice to have.

As soon as lens arrives I will have some review on it

Don't mount it to your D700 until you verify that it can Safely mounted. This is a pre-AI mount. You would probalby have to have the lens converted so that you don't damage your camera.

Why? I think he means "NAI" is Nikon AI mount. There was no 400/5.6 ED-IF with "prong" coupling.

yup it is AI mount. I think it will be ok to mount.

It is a good lens, although quite long and heavy, so a decent tripod is in order. I am sure you can find reviews online, via www.NikonLinks.com.

I have & use a Sigma 400mm 5.6 and find it a very useful lens but would expect the Nikkor to be capable of much better IQ. A magnifying eye piece might help in the MF department. Good luck with it and carry on where grandpa left off. Take care. bob
