So, it was your 1.4X TC that gave you grieve before, huh? What did Canon do to fix it? Did they specify that in their repair sheet?
Yes, they charged $64 and said it was broken mount pin. I am not 100% sure that caused issues but results I am getting are much better now. Could be because I learned how to use 500L
Congratulations on the resolution of the problem you were experiencing with your EF 500 F4L IS USM (the "500") and the Canon 1.4 Mk II TC. Your recently posted images are outstanding. Enjoy your 500 and the Canon 1.4 Mk II TC; they are an exceptionally good combination, as your beautiful images amply show.

I remember your thread, I'm glad you sent it like I suggested and that it came back better!
Thanks everyone. Forget to mention, on all these shots above I am using 580ex flash mounted on wimberley F1 bracket with defusor to extend power. On flash I am setting -1 otherwise getting overflash time to time. Results start getting better in details and shadows after...
Well sir that would make a very worthy post in the NW forum You have achieved your goal on sharpness with that setup, very nice shots! Curious, what was done to the TC for repair??

Thanks, as I said - I am not sure if tc 100% caused initial issues but they said on paper something like - "Replaced broken mount pin, inspected/cleaned/adjusted to the factory defaults...yap-yap " What is NW forum?

North-West forum. That's where all the bird and animal photography experts post.
Leonid, that combo of yours seems to produce sufficient sharpness. I like your sense of framing exibited on these images. One consideration is the use of flash. While it eliminates shadows and generally can yield higher clarity, flash also often results in "flatness" of images.
