Ok guys I'm looking at purchasing a Wacom tablet for doing my editing with. Reason being that my mouse is killing my wrist when I do detail work in CS3. Just wondering if there are other options or what most FMers are using.
Love my Wacom tablet. It really saved my wrist earlier this year. I ended up using it for a while instead of my mouse for all computing needs. It was amazing how much better I felt (and how quickly it did feel better).
we have a wacom tablet... but we never really got used to using it and now its just packed up somewhere.. we are working a lot more now, than we did back then so maybe we should break it out again.
Thanks for the feedback so far everyone. Looks like most people that use them are happy. And some even seem to have gone to a tablet for the same reason I am considering one with good results.
For finer edits (cloning, masking, healing, or deleting backgrounds) there really is no substitute for a Wacom tablet. I do find that after a while my hand starts to hurt, much alike when you write for a while, but the mouse it comes with is nice for a break. I like using the tablet much more than my MX revolution, which is fine mouse in its own right.
I had a Wacom for a week. I got used to it. It was cool, but I prefer a Mouse. I'm very picky with my mice. G500 is the best one I've tried yet. Never underestimate a good mousepad too.
But regarding tablets, I don't use it primarily and exclusively. I use my mouse for day-to-day computer use and tablet just for touchup work. Logitech VX Revolution and Wacom Intuos 4.

I've been using a Wacom tablet for years. The best thing to save your hands. That and a proper chair.
I have a Wacom tablet and have since high school. I haven't used a real mouse since I got the first tablet! It irritates my husband to no end because he will try to get onto my computer and ends up dragging stuff around or clicking on things he doesn't mean to. But I do a lot of Illustrator work outside of my photography and in both cases it is great! I don't know if I could ever go back to a mouse!
I use a tablet (Wacom A4) for all the retouching where pressure sensitivity is needed, like paniting a mask or dodging/burning.
Besides this, I use the mouse all the time. I find it more relaxing for the wrist because the mouse takes the weight of the hand and I donīt need to hold the pen up all the time.
I love my tablet for specific edits - brushing, liquify, etc. But lately it hasn't been working. So my hands have been suffering. Mouse works fine for "normal" edits.
I have one of the larger wacoms (8x12" i believe) and its AMAZING! I have used it for years! Great control and flexibility and the programable buttons are great! I could never go back to a mouse for extensive editing.
