I'm not sure what US city is cheapest, though I think that B&H can usually provide the best prices and they are located in NY and that is who Henry works for (and they're awesome btw, I've bought most of my lenses and bodies from them or Amazon). As for Chicago I'd recommend Calumet. I go to their location in Los Angeles and find that the store layout is amazing, the cleanest and most organized camera store I've ever been to. They have a large selection and also have used glass and bodies and TONS of lighting gear.

Frankly, you don't want the lowest prices. You want the lowest prices from a reliable trustworthy store where you can shop confidently. That may not be the lowest price or even in the bottom 50%, but shopping for camera equipment and spending the weekend in Vegas should not carry the same degree of uncertainty IMO.
