That flash set up looks great, no obvious flash hotspots on the helmets and the faces seem properly exposed. Cool shots #3 is a sweet shot, did he score on that catch?

Thanks, and no, he actually dropped it.

What was ambient at this field - it looks to be excellent to start with, I'm only seeing the typical flash under look shadows in #5 and maybe in #2, though that light source appears to be higher as the arm shadow is falling down. The lighting (and action) look very good.

One observation on the setup - looking at the centerline of the lens and the centerline of the flash, it looks like the flash is pointed away from the lens centerline - and away from the subject. (all I did to confirm this was to scroll down the image and use the top of the Firefox window as a "level". The lens is level but the flash looks to be deflected about 5 degrees. This may explain some of the need for +2/3 as the central focus of the flash was well below the subject - but maybe you stumbled on a way to "bounce" outdoors (I'm only half-joking as that looks like nice shiny turf).

I've always used a fixed attachment point (I go the cheap route, an L bracket and two hose clamps) which a bent to the angle I wanted. I only have to make sure the flash is lined up with the lens. The superclamp approach with the ball head seems to me to be more difficult to align, especially if it gets bumped in the field.

Thanks Mark. The ambient was f2.8, ISO 3200, and shutter of NO WHERE FAST ENOUGH! I was shooting the 1D Classic, which is horribel for noise(even after NR), so that's why I chose to go with the flash set up.

The flash when being used, is indeed in line with the lens. The photo of the set up was just a quick shot to show another photog on a different forum, and it was not lined up perfect although I have experimented with the flash in different angles mounted to the pod.

And yes, I even tried bouncing the flash of that turf during war-ups, but wasn't happy with the results.

Thanks for the reply Mark!
