So seriously back to the point of this thread...any definite update on the Einsteins? Not a we hope to do such and such this week or next week...anything concrete?
We are building the first small batch starting late next week, with larger runs in process as quickly as possible. I signed purchase orders for 5000 units two days ago for well over a million dollars. But you don't build an instant million dollar plus production run without making sure the bases are covered and what you are building doesn't have unexpected bugs . . . unless you are a fool.

Ellis, I wouldn't be too sure about this. I don't expect a direct secession, but can well see a refusal to bail out the liberal states that are coming asking for bailouts this year. This ain't the civil war days and right now the southern states can shut the country down if they are pushed too hard by the liberal states that are becoming hopelessly mired in socialism. Southern States like Texas and several others have a lot more economic and military power than they did in the civil war and will act if Obama insists on being a Socialist (or worse) dressed as Robin Hood. Look at the real national debt, not the one you see on N BS C and the others....Show more →

No matter which party is in the White House or running (not well) the two houses of Congress this is a likely possibility. The poorer states (like CA, GA, TN, AL, FL, NV, etc.) will jump on it lickety split if they can. They want that revenue stream.
Ellis, we have a Democratic governor who has done a great job of fighting state income taxes and keeping the state as solvent as possible. The previous Republican Governor was advocating state income taxes. Go figure. Tennessee is known as the volunteer state for good reason. The good ole boys are a whole lot smarter than most liberals I know, and they give a XXXX for each other and the country. They can separate common sense from what they teach at Harvard and Oxford. There was a reason I left Hollywood to move here in 1972.
Oh, and when did CA become a poorer state while still being the world's 7th largest economy? They made themselves poor by their policies and are now, indeed, become poor as a result. I ain't baling them out without a fight even though I was born there.

That's not what you said above. "Dividing" isn't saving. "Changing" is saving.
I was born in the fabulous fifties, and served proudly (volunteered, not drafted) in the US Air Force.
Sometimes dividing, or at least resisting, is the only way to save a bad marriage or a nation gone bad. And I for sure wasn't drafted. Born in the fifties huh - that explains a lot. That was right after the entire nation gave everything to give you what you grew up in and to resist what we are now headed into.
People wonder why threads and forums die .............
Why would I bother checking this forum every time I get an email notification that someone has made a new post when all I find is that Americans are fighting over their political system and no-one is discussing studio lighting.
Aren't their other threads, indeed forums, where political views can be discussed ??

Huh? A divorce doesn't save a marriage; marriage counseling saves a marriage.
More often than not, marriage counseling just delays the inevitable. More often, a divorce yields better lives for both parties if the divorce comes from irreconcilable incompatibility.
Paul has every right to be crazier than a shithouse rat, and I strongly believe in his right to say whatever he wants to say. That doesn't make it a good business decision, though, and I'm genuinely surprised that anyone with such proven business acumen would willingly visit a public forum and alienate half of his potential customers for no real reason.

There's and old saying "If you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything" I stand for something and my business is doing just fine.

No wonder the Einstein isn't shipping yet can someone please feed Pauls ego it's hungry again.
Wow, whether you are an artist or an engineer, that moment when you complete months or years of work, focused not only on the technical execution of the piece but on pulling together and holding it to fruition. It is the moment where the myth of the "crazy artist" or the "mad scientist" comes from.
Andy Warhol attributed the bizarre reputation that artists have to their being interviewed after being up for 3 months getting ready for a show.
once Einstein ships, and Paul gets some well deserved rest, I hope he comes back and presents his civic ideals in a way that we can disagree about substance but spare each other any personal rebuke.

+1 on that.
As someone who is responsible somewhat for the political detour this thread has taken, I take personal responsibility for going there. My apologies for the unnecessary drama. While I disagree with some people's political views as expressed here, I don't doubt anyone's patriotism or sincerity and I hope they don't doubt my love of country.
Can we now, please, just get back to hotly anticipating the Einstein?
From what I've seen, and I have seen some stuff most of you haven't seen, it is going to be a real game changer in what most working and amateur photographers expect from flash gear that isn't in the Profoto Pro 8 & higher end Broncolor price range. I'm being serious about that.
Paul has allowed us to publicly witness and comment on the Einstein's development and birth process. I don't know of any other company or CEO in any field who has allowed us that privilege. The spectacle reminds me of the comparison of sausage making to law making: if you like the benefits of either you don't want to watch the process.
Hopefully at some point I'd like to see what Paul and his team have done with the Einstein applied to a Zeus II pack & head system, but I also recognize that pack and head systems area small slice of even the narrow market segment made up of working high end commercial photographers.
Lost another one here too. I kind of wish this thread had never happened as the Einstein sounded so nice. Still, I'm sure customer serviceve will decline when all the good old boys are busy hording guns and MREs.
And god I hate it when people confuse socialism with a refusal to line their own pockets at the expense of the working class and the environment.
I do love my country, just like I love my parents, but blind fielity only serves to provide economic benefit for the politicial/business men (yup, I said men here for a reason) from all parties. I'll personally be glad when those folks are finally gone. Maybe then some of the self serving muckracking will disappear and people who actually want to do the right thing will finally get a chance.
This thread has opened my eyes. I'm done with it and with PCB, both the personand the company.
Bizarre is about the right description. Goes to show that you can never, really, truly, safely with certainty state "Now, I've seen everything...".

Same. The thinly veiled hate poorly disguised as a "political view" is just a bit too ugly for me.
Shame I actually worked hard most of my young years and went to Harvard where, if you listen to Paul, I apparently didn't learn much of anything that wouldn't have better taught in good ol' Tennessee where they teach plain ol' common sense and a capacity to actually care for one another.
I don't care a whit for the ill-founded (I lived under a communist/socialist regime for almost ten years - calling Obama a socialist is ignorant at best and intentionally inflammatory at worst) and rambling "political views" of some crotchety old man that clearly has enough anger and self-victimization issues to fill Yankee stadium.
But, as a customer (and now, thanksto this thread, a former) customer, it would be nice for a business owner to actually have enough...ahem..."common sense" to recognize that discussing politics with customers might not be the smartest thing for business.
But we all know Paul, and he will come in here and claim that he knows more, has seen more, and has done more than we all have in our lives...congratulations, Paul. And, as someone said, you are fully entitled to your freedom of speech and expression. As a lawyer, I took an oath to defend that right of yours. But, whether you choose to believe it or not, Paul, we do live in a capitalist and free market society, and I get a vote with my wallet. The polls just closed, Paul, and I've got some bad news for you...
For everyone else looking forward to the light, I do hope that Einstein works out for you. Lots of people seem very excited for it and it be great to see those folks turn out some slick images with the new toy. It would be nice, however, if we could keep a lighting forum actually focused on lighting in the future...
