I posted this in the canon forum, but no replies. Hope it is relevant enough here: How do most of you have your settings for shooting sports? Which button on the back do you have set to auto focus, etc... Custom function settings are welcome as well, but I am more talking about the settings that are accessed from the "Q" menu. How is your button layout. I think I may set the DoF button to go from point to AI Servo, since I never use DoF button.
it will vary from venue to venue whether indoors or out. Why not learn to shoot manually and forget that exotic stuff that does not help in learning any basic photography skills?
How does button layout change from indoors to out? I think you're reading way too much into Drayken's post. Seem's pretty clear to me that he's not asking for aperture and shutter speed, but rather ergonomic issues related to assignment of basic functions to buttons.
I haven't had the 7D long but so far all the default button assignments are working out just fine for me. There is a new one to learn with the M-Fn button. Maybe it's sort of an old-fashioned approach but I feel that I'd like to learn to use the camera the way Canon set it up, and then, after I feel comfortable with that, try changing some things to see if there is a set up I like better. Suggestions from other users can be helpful but, in the long run, it's what works best for me that will win out in the end.
The only button layout change I made was to add back button af to the * because the one they have dedicated to AF-ON is smaller then what I am use to using.
