For those that have got it I'm wondering how you find the focusing speed in comparison to the VRI. My VRI is in with Nikon right now and I'm thinking I may buy a VRII and just sell the VRI when it gets back from Nikon warranty repair if it is really that much of an improvement.
Just yesterday received our new 70-200 lenses (just four for now) and two of the new D3s bodies as well. The 70-200 lenses are just a wee bit heavier than the predecessor but not much. Focus speed is excellent and the zoom ring is VERY smooth.
I'll be shooting some football with both later today.

Based on what's happening in the currency markets and general supply and demand...where do you guys see the price of the VR2 in say 6 months?
In other words, if I felt like indulging my nacent NAS, would I be rewarded with a $300 price drop in January?
I'd be curious to hear from VR1 early adopters what the price fluctuations were within the first year of ownership.
Thanks in advance.

As long as buyers are on a waiting list to pay $2399, I don't see the price dropping. Nikon is notorious for not keeping up with demand on items like this, so I doubt all preorders will even be filled by Jan. I really would be suprised if the price is down $300 by January 2011.
Just ordered from B&H. Still says in stock. Ordered a D700 at the same time, so free delivery. Ordered a 24-70 from Adorama.
So I guess I'm becoming one of you guys now. Do I get a Nikon hat?
Unless for some unforeseen reason the D700 does not live up to expectations, I'll start selling my Canon gear to pay for this.
I'm not going to end up with the same set up as I have now since Nikon lenses cost more, and my gear has depreciated. I was debating the 12-24 instead of the 70-200. I find myself using my 16-35 more than my 70-200, but on a FF I think, for what I shoot, I'll be missing more the extra reach my 24-70 has now on a 1.3 crop. I used to have a FF (5D), and found 24 was wide enough most of the time.
I'm in Canada, and just recieved mine today. It shipped yesterday afternoon (Nov 25). I couldn't be happier with it. Compared to the VR1, it focusses faster and the VR performance is much better. I wasn't in love with my old 70-200, but I think I may have found my soul mate...
Yea, that does look soft. Probably right about it not being in focus though.

Thanks for posting these images. The f/2.8 shot 200mm of the stained glass looks rather soft compared to the f/5.6.. Am I being too picky?
