I haven't been posting for a while because I was sick - then it just seemed like too much work to get back into it.
That said, I've had some really fun shoots over the past few months, and I thought I would start first with a shoot that focused primarily on composition and light. It's not where I'm currently headed, but I had an awesome, awesome time. This is from June. Yes, I know...
I like 1. 10B, if I have to choose. He seems to love raising his eyebrows, no? The beach shots and the following BWs in the room and restaurant stand out to me, as well.
I like 1-17 and waiting for the 18th to show up.
I am sure these are not the final images.
prefer more horizontal, human eyes tend to see and like more horizontal way then........
my suggestion to you is to shoot more horizontal images. I preferred all of the horizontals vs the verticals. It's more natural.
So funny - I love 14, Matt doesn't. I guess it's just one of those things.
So glad you mentioned shooting horizontal. This set was primarily horizontal - not sure why I posted all verticals. Maybe better captures? I remember Maurice saying something about how he wants mostly horizontal shots from a wedding because they tell tend to be more story-telling. Great catch. I have actively been trying to shoot more horizontal shots, so I'm glad you brought that up.
DB... great stuff. We've missed you here.. please post more often.
The only really advice I can offer is that I don't like the composition on #1. I think that if you move them to the right in the frame, so that strong vertical becomes the right border, you'll put them on a 1/3's line and have the cool architecture of the stairs to give some more interest to what's on the left side of the frame.

14 has a strange storytelling aspect to it that made me look twice.
I prefer horizontals because they do "tell the story" better. It's also the way the human eye sees and I think it's viewed more naturally as an image because of it.
Thanks all for the crits! I always learn so much when people comment on my photos. Even if it's nerve-wracking to post.

I would scrap 3....
She does not look natural, her hand looks a little awkward, and her face looks a little "wide"
I am not sure if she will find this image flattering.
Malik - that was an eye-opening critique of that photo. I actually love this photo because of the light - I love seeing her facial features highlighted. But you have pointed out two things i didn't notice - that there are other, more flattering poses for her face, and her hands are awkward. How in the world did I not notice that? Now that I look at her hands, I can't not see the awkwardness.
1. It had leading lines that would have helped direct you to the couple. The stairs could have made this shot exceptional. Taking them from a center and moving them to a rule of thirds intersection point on the right of the photo. Either upper right or bottom right.
3. Really love this perspective great shot.
4. I like how you you used the railing and stairs to lead the viewer into the subjects.
5. I like his expression looks like they are having fun. You want to see her eye after seeing her smile and there are a few highlights there that maybe should be darkened up a little.
6-9 these are my favorites of the series. Love the her hair blowing in the wind.
10and 10b- I like 10 best. Its about her expression when looking at him rather than the scenery. Again good use of lines to help bring the viewer in.
12. Like the expressions.
13. Great shot- watch the toes.
14. Like the lines in this shot If you had framed them in the bottom right corner you would have gotten more depth and lines in the photograph.
17. Has good some really cool colors. Play up that yellow in the flowers and the blue drapes in the back. Try and get rid of the two people in the back
Good job. They are all great without any changes just minor stuff
