Some of you may immediately recognize these. Know what they are? It's not that difficult.

Looks like hot glue leftovers to me. If so, very cool. If not, well, it's still cool.

Thought you might recognize these. Saw these this morning as I was getting ready to take a few shots with just the one light with the new diffuser. The SB800 was still on the lens. You can see the reflection of the big Lumiquest softbox in the drops. Should be able to get the other lite done tonite and get to the gardens in the morning for some field testing.

If I could afford lasers for toys, I wouldn't be trying to manufacture better lighting.

Hi Kenny,
Don't think that I've seen your rig before?
How do you mount the SB800 directly to your lens?
From admiring your pics for quite a while, I would suggest that however you do it, the lighting certainly works. . . .

Bruce, I misspoke a little. The flash is mounted to a DIY bracket that's mounted to the tripod collar of the PN-11 extension tube which sits just behind the 105mm lens.

Looks like this:

That's a SB-600 with a bastardized diffuser, but the look is the same, basically. It's a pretty flexible getup for just one lite.

Thanks Kenny
I was wondering what rigs the Nikon guys were using?
I was also wondering as to whether the 105VR is any better, for macro with a tube, than the older 'D' series lens?
Thanks again,
Bruce

I think perhaps he meant one of those laser pointer thingee. Like one of these perhaps. Available in RGB colours too.

http://www.wickedlasers.com/

I'd try to buy it but the Customs here would probably just confiscate it and put me in the potential terrorist list.

Can't answer that one, never having used the newer lens. Mine is an older non-D but it works fine for me. I may try to pick up one of those one of these days just for grins. The only advantage with the VR version that I'd care for is that it's an IF--internally focusing--lens.

They just fall off the glue gun like that.

thank you for getting it clear - sorry put it in wrong words.

what I wanted to say is just as painting with laser- get a dark room, set your camera to bulb and have some fun. you get one and point it at your glue balls from different direction with different color.
