No one knows for sure (or rather, those who know aren't talking, those who don't are ), but this poster at DPReview mentions early next year. He's got a good track record, and knew the 1D MK IV was coming.
FWIW I happened to talk to a canon person at the factory inquiring about another matter. I just happened to ask the person when should we see the new cam on the shelves. I was told Dec. 28th. Who knows.
The reason for my interest is that early next year I will be looking to buy a Ds mkII. I figured if the new mkIV was out or about to come out it might put more pressure on the other Ds series. Thank you for your insights.
Tim expressed my thoughts exactly, except it's a 1DsIII that I'm after. I hope to buy a gently-used one in April or May, so the sooner the better for the 1DsIV.
Hello,
Has anyone heard anything on the Ds4 as to possible timing of release? Isn't there a photo show sometime in the first part of the new year? Thank you.
My local camera store owner knows a professional photographer in the area testing a completely blacked out 1 series body. One can only guess what it is.

He definitely must have meant the 1DIV not the 's!
Canon Oita is starting up production of the new sensors at the moment. No way there are assmbled units ready yet, which should be imperative to have units on the shelf at the end of december. Anyway, for those who like 1Ds series, it's gonna be EOSfun after some patience now (but available in 2010!)
We are betting on PK 2010, but it could be a bit earlier. Usually they want to shake out the bugs on the 1D MK model before the similar high end 1Ds MK model is out.

Probably Sept 2010. Slight chance for Feb 2010 but I think unlikely.
Camera will be a dull upgrade with 32+ Megapixels, 5fps, video, dual DIGIC IV, improved AF. Basically a full frame 1Dmk4. Yawn.

Just like the mk1, mk2, and mk3 (ok the mk1 was more than 2x the MP but still). Why should this one be different? Why should we expect more? The real yawn was the mk3, which was hardly an improvement over the mk2 (and in some ways, two steps back). If the mk4 is 60% more than the mk3, then it's in the same category of an upgrade as the mk2 was over the mk1, and I don't remember that many people yawning back then.
I'll take a 32MP 1D MK IV any day! If they could only incraese the buffer, get the frame rate up a bit, and offer HSC there would be no need for both formats.
Cameras are already good enough. ( Did I say so somewhere ? )
Sensors will get more pixels, not because you need, but because the manufacturing has to ride on the technology trend to reduce their cost.
And we are going to get more integrations with other suff like, GPS, WiFi, HD movie, Blue-tooth, what did I miss ?
Yeah. GPS. Maybe in the mk7. Somehow we still don't have a friggin' level. My hope is that the level will be added to the 1Ds4 - the "s" always had one extra feature over the "non-s".
