p.1 #1 · Wasp bubble-blowing

After spraying the camelia leaves with the normal sugar/honey solution I put some drops of the remainder on the shoulder of a water barrel. later on this attracted a wasp which fed on the drops and then twice proceeded to blow some small bubbles (drops) rather like flies often do. Never seen a wasp do this before !

Thanks john
Can only assume the bubble blowing was for similar reasons to flies doing it.

Hi Brian,
I assume the 'sweet mix' that you use is mainly an attractant, but when the insects are feeding, do they become more relaxed and approachable?

The highlight on the eye is beautiful. Sort of space-age like a Space Invader

You must have some weird effect on insects, Brian! They're always blowing bubbles at you

Nice shots.

Slightly more convincing 4 shot animation below.

Matt - tend to look out for flies doing this but this is the first time I've seen a wasp do it.
