It's been a while, but spring has finally arrived...more like summer the last couple of days. Took the camera out in the garden for a bit of sight seeing...not a whole lot, but the critters are starting to appear.
I need to work on my lighting, these were taken with either on camera flash or 430EX with stofen. There have been so many good ideas for diffusers here, but I've been too slack to make one
I'll post the medium sized images, the large are on my flickr site (http://www.flickr.com/photos/matthewh26/)...not sure what flickr does to the photos, but they lose detail!
Hi Matt,
They appear to be similar to the 'jumpers' that I have seen lots of around here in downtown Ballarat and are particularly active late afternoon into early evening, but then disappear before the 'night-shift' arrives.
The caterpillar is certainly NOT familiar.

Thanks for the comments guys. I wasn't 100% sure at first if they were jumpers due to their longer body shape, then again, while watching one jump from one fence paling to the next, I should have guessed!
Bruce, sounds like the same ones, these guys are all over the place in the afternoon, but gone at night...it seems to be the bigger creepier spiders that make an appearance at night.
Hopefully the mantis' should start making an appearance soon and a few other cool critters.
Hi Matt,
I've got a little jumper in a habitat right now that I'm trying to get 'on film'.
The body design is totally different with a very large abdomen and tiny short legs.
The only reason that I include it with the 'jumpers', is the same reason as yours; I was out filling my dog's water bowl and this little guy was jumping from brick to brick on the back wall of my house.
I will see how I go and try and post an image.
Bruce
Sounds cool Bruce, I'll keep my eyes out for your shots. I'm fascinated by these little fellas...maybe it's because they appear to be fascinated by us. Pic 3 is my favorite, I love it when they look you right down the lens barrel.
