p.1 #1 · Quadra-EL Adapter

For Quadra owners, anyone been able to locate the seemingly unobtainable EL adapter? Am contemplating a Quadra (or AcuteB) kit, but one hesitation with the former is the fact that the adapter seems to be in a permanent back-order situation. One solution would be a Quadra pack+ Ranger head via adpater cable, but am curious if anyone has managed to find this chunk of unobtanium anywhere of late.

Checks with usual suspects in NA and EU (despite being listed as 'in stock' with some) have one uniform result - awaiting stock.

The adapters are notoriously not living up to spec. Elinchrom clearly states support for the wonderful Deep Octa softbox, yet no amount of tightening will keep the DO from chin-dipping into your lightstand with an unmodified RQ-EL adapter. I personally suspect a minor manufacturing defect is causing the problem. The adapters themselves are easilly modified with new washers to let them work as spec'ed. Elinchrom might be limiting distribution of the adapter based on feedback until they fix the problem.

FWIW the adapter also fits an SB-900 perfectly. They will be a hot strobist item IMO.

Robb,

Interesting on them (squeeze)fitting an SB-900. I sadly don't think they're holding back to re-design the units. The swivel mount on the adapter is identical to the infamously lousy one on the D-Lite monolights. It also needs the DIY mod - which leads to the light itself breaking with heavy mods like a Mola Demi (long story). One of the reasons I moved to the BXRi units.

While I hope you're right, I think the design is as-is, the availability is another matter.

Robb,

How's that work exactly?

TIA.
